Hi everyone,
My name is Jingyun Liu, and I go by Jingyun. I am 23 years old. I’m originally from Harbin, China. It’s a small city in the northeast part of China. It is close to Russia. My first language is Mandarin. However, I have lived in Macau for a few months in 2017, and I can understand some basic Cantonese. I moved to Victoria in September 2018 for high school. I graduated from Spectrum Community High School in January 2021 and went to Camosun in the Summer term of 2021. I did a university transfer program and attended UVic in the Fall 2022 term.
I’m currently in my final year of a combined major in Mathematics and Statistics. I’m going to graduate in April 2026 and attend the graduation ceremony in June 2026. I enjoyed a lot of math & stats courses, especially in the area of Applied Mathematics. Some of my favourite academic subjects include Mathematical Modelling (Math 377), Ordinary/Partial Differential Equations (Math 342/346), Stochastic Processes (Math 452), and numerical methods (Math 348). I enjoy working on challenging math problems, writing Python or R code, and understanding how algorithms work under the hood. One interesting thing I did this past year was working on a numerical methods project involving quadratic splines during my Math 348 class, it was both tough and rewarding!
Outside of school, I love listening to music, exploring new adventures, and hiking around the island when the weather’s good. The hobby that I enjoyed the most is dragon boating. I’m a member of Fairway Gorge Paddling Club. I just went to one of the biggest Dragon Boat Festivals in Concord at the end of June last year.
I’ve had some experience using multimedia tools like Cosmic which I’ve learnt in EDCI 337 last summer. I’m excited to build on those skills and learn how to create more engaging, interactive educational content through this course.
Something I hope to learn here is how to combine technical knowledge with creative design to communicate complex ideas more clearly — especially for teaching or collaborative projects.
Looking forward to getting to know all of you and working together this term 🙂 Please message me if you would like to work in a group together.
-Jingyun
